Declutter Your Home!

Ready to start a fresh year with clarity? I know that when I have a lot of unnecessary “stuff” around my house, I feel overwhelmed and unorganized. Do you feel the same way? Don’t worry. Here are 5 tips and tricks that I’ve used to feel less overwhelmed and more organized in life.

1. Declutter– Declutter one area in your house at a time. Start in your bedroom or kitchen. Whichever room you feel like you are in the most. That way you can breathe in the room you spend the most time in once you get rid of unnecessary things that you no longer use nor need. From there, go to the next room, and then continue until you went through all of the rooms. Try organizing a small corner in a room each day or go into beast mode and clean/organize an entire room in one day. This could be difficult with little ones, but it’s doable!

2. Donate/Sell/Trash– Once you declutter your home, you can donate those things to Goodwill or sell them on Facebook or eBay. If you have anything that is broken that can’t be fixed or have clothes that have holes in them that can’t be salvaged…trash it!

3. FreeMy college classmate nicknamed me Cheap Cheap for a reason. I’m all about free things, however, since becoming a mom… we have more stuff than we need. So, getting free things like toys, clothes, and other things that are not necessary when you already have what you need. You just gotta say “No, thank you!” And move on. It’s okay to say->No, thank you!

4. Stay busy– When I’m bored, I like to browse online shopping. Noooo! Stay busy. Spend time with family (play board games, color, paint) Cook a new meal, learn something new (sew or make homemade bread), learn a language, garden, exercise, etc.. Try to stay busy instead of spending money on unnecessary things.

5. Buy high quality– Have you ever heard of, Quality over quantity? This is soooo TRUE! Why buy 3 pairs of boots with low quality than one pair that will last wayyyy longer than the 3 low-quality boots? You shouldn’t buy more, but better quality! I used to work in ladies’ shoes at Dillard’s and let me tell you from experience that quality makes a difference. I’ve worn the same Uggs for 4 or 5 years, and the only reason why I had to get rid of them was not because of the tiny hole in them, but because of the mold that I wasn’t able to get rid of. If it weren’t for the mold, I would’ve probably still had them for another couple of years. Also, my first son’s toddler shoes are now 8 years old and now my little one is wearing them. So, yes! Quality is for sure more important and better than quantity. In conclusion, I value the huge blessings that God has bestowed upon me. Family time and experiences with my loved ones over collecting and owning material possessions are much more valuable in life. I’m super grateful for our items, but the people and experiences are far more valuable than anything I have.

45: “Their possessions and goods they sold and divided them to all, according as every one had need. 46: And continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they took their meat with gladness and simplicity of heart: 47: Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord increased daily together such as should be saved.”
